Product Guide and Review

EPIFANES Monourethane Paint

This paint is awesome. I researched this product for several months and compared reviews from publications such as Practical Sailor who pitted it up against Interlux and Petit. Epifanes came out on top specifically for the color blue that I wanted. It is a very deep paint that it is nice and thick and when mixed with just the right amount of Epifanes thinner flows nicely. This paint holds up well to daily abuse and is very easy to touch up. I would highly recommend this one part paint. The best prices are at Jamestown Distributors in Bristol, RI. They ship all their products and they are always eager to help. www.jamestowndistributors.com

Interprotect 2001E

While Tempestuous did not have any underwater blisters in the hull, I wanted to do the restoration right and now was the perfect chance to apply this great water sealer. Essentially INTERPROTECT is a epoxy paint that adheres to the hull and prevents water from penetrating the glass. According to the company INTERPROTECT chemically forms a shingle style protection on the hull similar to what roof shingles do. The product was easy to put on, follow the directions exactly and you shouldn't have any problems.

West Marine Antifouling paint - Epoxy Shield

This paint is VERY inexpensive. West Marine seems to have a sale on it every year and a gallon goes for around $40.00. Overall I'm impressed with it, however it doesn't do a great job preventing slime and some stubborn barnacles. I 'm debating purchasing a higher quality ablative this year. I'll do some research and let you all know.

Minwax Spar Varnish

Don't waste your time with this. I thought I would save a few bucks and buy "spar varnish" at Home Depot. This stuff has started to crack, chip etc. I'm sure it's great for outdoor wood at home, but not on the water. I plan on using Epifanes Varnish this year.

Rustoleum Enamel

The perfect paint for inside the cabin/bilge. Its tough, inexpensive, nice and glossy and easy to put on. I love it.
