So, how did two college friends randomly end up embarking on a sailboat restoration?

Well it all started about a year ago when we were hanging out at work looking at the web page for the University of Rhode Island Foundation Boat Sale page. The Foundation accepts boats as donations and then sells them a few times a year to make money for the University. Well as we looked we noticed many of the boats were older, in need of repair and also...dirt cheap. After some more research and discussions back and forth we decided to take a look. The day of the sale came and Charlie had to be at work, so I went to the sale. After walking around for a while inspecting the numerous boats I found the yacht of our dreams! With the wonderful powers of Nextel I described the details to Charlie and we decided to place a bid. The next day I received a phone call saying we had won the bid and we were now the proud owners of a 1966 O'Day Tempest. So, how much does a 1966 O'Day Tempest sell for at auction????............   $700.00!!! This includes, outboard, sails, rigging etc etc....not a bad deal!

Ok...so now a little about us. We are both college seniors at the University of Rhode Island, both majoring in Marine Affairs/Coastal Policy. We meet freshman year when we joined the Universities Emergency Medical Services department and over the years have moved to the ranks to be the Commander and Vice Commander of the department. This boat is not only is a way for us to practice our carpentry skills, but it is a way for us to get away from school and work! If you check out our NAME page, you'll notice many of the names hold a public safety origin...please excuse this...but as anyone who is a member of a volunteer department knows...you're never actually away from work ;)

So as of this winter, the boat is solely mine, time constraints and many other life factors have necessitated the split, but all is well and the work continues!

Thanks for visiting the website!
